Patricia,

I just finished a 1-1/2 week research trip to De Witt Co. and vicinity in late July. I camped some nights at nearby Weldon Springs State Park, just 5 minutes SE of town, but hot weather and heavy rains chased me into a motel. I stayed at the Sunset Inn & Suites on the west side of Clinton, again, just five minutes from the library and courthouse (which are next to each other). [This is not a commercial endorsement, but it was a very comfortable place with reasonable rates and good wireless internet access.] Their contact information, through the local Chamber of Commerce, can be found at,

That CoC website might lead you to other accomodations but there aren't many choices in Clinton.

I recall seeing much information about the Lane's during my visit although they are not one of my families of focus. You will find the materials in the De Witt Co. Genealogical Society's library to be outstanding--simply one of the best outfitted, best organized, and most comfortable local gen. libraries I've ever visited. They are co-located in the County Library which is immediately north of the county courthouse in downtown Clinton. Plenty of parking, etc. The genealogical society occupies one whole "wing" of the county library. On most days, there may be one or more members of the local society there to help get you oriented. They are top notch.

Chuck
