Thanks for your reply. My grandfather was Joseph Marion Henson Jr, son of Joseph Marion and Mary L (Molly) Henson. My grandfather was born in Indian Territory (Chickasaw Nation) on the very day his father was making the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 into Oklahoma Territory. He staked a claim on land just NE of Oklahoma City. I have all his claim papers from NARA. He apparently moved here from Kansas where I think he married Molly but I don't have any records on that yet, other than that was where her family was living. My grandfather had an older brother, William Perry Henson, but I don't think his mother was Molly. I do know Nancy divorced Joseph in 1885 because he was allegedly living out of wedlock in Kansas. Joseph and Molly had one more son after my grandfather. His name was Roy Lee Henson and he was born in OKC. Oklahoma has no death record for Joe SR so it's possible he did not die here although he was living in OKC at age 75 in 1910. Apparently Joe SR was somewhat of a scoundrel with a hot temper. In 1900 he was in the Kansas State Penitentiary for horse-stealing (listed in the census as John Henson but I have the prison record showing he was actually there) and my grandfather said that he was also imprisoned for hitting a man in the head with a shovel, but I haven't found a record of this yet. It's just what my grandfather said. I would be interested to know what details you have. I'll look through my notes for other things you might be interested in. Thanks again for your reply. I live in Oklahoma so I have access to alot of sources. Maybe we can both find out more about our notorious grandfather.
