From Blanchards 1882 History of DuPage page 24
Feb 1839 "In the due course of legislation, DuPage County was organized as per the act already stated, the first section of which gave the inhabitants of the three northern tiers of sections in Will County, the power to choose by a popular vote, in the following August to which county they would belong"
Each side had it's own interests in the hot election, but in the end "the polls were closed , votes counted, and one majority for Will County was the result."

Note- page 142, Nov 11 1850, notes of the first board of superviors meeting listed members from Addison, Bloomingdale, Wayne, Winfield, Milton, Downers Grove, "Du Page", Naperville. York-not present.
Lisle was not listed altho the name was in use before 1850. So perhaps DuPage township was considered part of Lisle at some time. ceboldt@msn.com
