Batavia (Illinois) Herald, 27 January 1898

Edward Shannon, the Belvidere wife murderer who was tried before Judge Willis at Wheaton in October, on a change of venue from Boone county, was last week sentenced to be hanged in the Wheaton jail between the hours of 10 and 2 o'clock, February 11. The sentence was pronounced by Judge Willis. Application for pardon will be made to the board of pardons, and an appeal will be taken. Shannon shot and killed his wife on a Northwestern train at Belvidere, about two years ago.
