Hi all. Hopefully some of you can help me out. I am a senior at the University of Illinois. I am currently leading a just started research project studying Edwards County Illinois. We have a team of six people that will be researching Edwards County from about 1850 into the 1900's...as much as we have time for. We are very interested in collecting information relevant and unique to Edwards County. We are hoping to find out many things about not only the founding of the county, but the people, way of life, and county statistics such as population, economic situation, churches, etc. We also plan on researching several of the prominant familes during the 1800's along with some of the african american families listed in Edwards County's Emancipation Records. So far, we do have information on the Burrass family over a 50 year period (being as it was the focus of a major paper of mine last semester.) Our group hopes to find lots of information. We do also plan to take a trip to Edwards County to view cemetaries, and any historic buildings or sites that are still standing. Now with all of that said. I know everyone here is interested in at least a little bit of Edwards County. If anyone has any helpful information on where to start, or if records are still available, or would like to help contribute to our project being in suggesting familes to research or providing starter information on the communities it would be greatly appreciated. All of the information we receive will of course be verified, as the information we uncover will be put together into a website hosted by the University of Illinois, hopefully detailing information about several counties of Southern Illinois. We have already begun going through information available online (through certain ancestry websites, and the infomation available from the IL Gov. online). We are also going through the Illinois History Survey Library here on our campus. I also plan on calling the Edwards County Historical Society later this week (if any of you know about what kind of information they have it would be nice to know, considering we will skip a day of classes to take a little road trip if it would benefit the project.) Our problem comes with limited time (just this spring semester) and the fact that we do have to attend our other classes! We would really like to help those researching Edwards County for their personal histories or otherwise, so if there is anything that any of you would really like information complied on, please let us know. We do not want to put together information that will not further help the people interested in Edwards County. I know there is alot of information on the web, so we don't want to be redundant (to an extreme extent) in what we present on our website. I hope anyone with helpful information or suggestions will please feel free to get in contact with me. Thank you very much.
