No. 578.824 19 Jul 1904 Edwards Co IL: "Declaration of a Widow for Original Pension: On this 19th Jul 1904 personally appeared before me, a Notary Public, Edwards Co IL, MARGARET HARTLEY formerly EVANS, aged 68 years, a resident of Browns, Edwards Co IL, WIDOW OF WILLIAM EVANS who was enrolled at Albion IL 28 May 1861 as a Private, Co. G, 18th Regt. IL Inf. Vols. and who died at Mound City, Illinois, on 30th September 1861 of wounds inflicted by his murderer ROBERT DICKERMAN... said soldier was born at Manchester, England, height 5'9-10, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, occupation Shoemaker... that she was married under the name of MARGARET DEMPSEY at Philadelphia, PA on 10th May 1853, that she had not been previously married; that the soldier had not been previously married; proof of marriage was made in Guardians Cert. No. 174387 of THOMAS EVANS and JAMES EVANS, minors of WILLIAM EVANS... that she was never divorced from said soldier, and that she has remarried since his death to CHRISTOPHER HARTLEY, Sept. 10th 1863 who died July 25th, 1891. That the said soldier left the following named children under 16 years of age at the date of his death: THOMAS EVANS b April 1ast, 1855 at Mount Carmel Illinois JAMES EVANS b Nov. 3rd, 1856 at Mount Cartmel Illinois KATE EVANS born at Albion, Illinois and she died before pension was granted to the said minors. That her post office address is Browns, Edwards, State of Illinois. signed Margaret X her mark HARTLEY formerly EVANS Attest: Frank Dalby, Jr., Edward Craig. Pensioner MARGARET HARTLEY last paid at $20. to Oct 4, 1917, has this day been dropped from the roll because of death about Dec. 4, 1917." Notify Administrator about this message?
