Donna, Your best bet is to go the Illinois State Historical Society in the Old State Capitol Building in Springfield. You will find microfilm of old newspapers, many for Edwards County, that can be utilized on their readers. I don't believe you'll find anything from Albion, Edwards County in the l850s, but from the late l860's and forward you might. Also you will probably find, there was not always continual publication of old newspapers of that period for various economical reasons and gaps for other reasons. Be sure to take a magnifying glass, as the print in the older papers is very small. Copies can be made by the staff for nominal fees. I have used this resource. The Edwards County Historical Society in Albion has some old papers, but likewise they have microfilm and a single reader. If you go there and find what you want on their microfilm, take your notepad and brush up on your shorthand. Contact Lois Goodson, Sue Cullison or Lovelle Vallette to help you there. They also have a good copy machine and nominal fees. Good luck and good hunting from an long time researcher, Gary L. Shaffer in Cerro Gordo, Illinois.
