barb, this may not help, but the 1860 effingham co.,il census you were refering to was for the old town of ewington in effingham county, which is summit township.ewington has quit a history. it was the original county seat of effingham county until it was decided to move the county seat to the town of effingham which was about three miles east of ewington,il.the only thing left of ewington is an old cemetary but some of the old tombstones are still legible.some of my ancestors are buried there and my family were also the davis's. i will go back out there and see if i can find anyone from catherine davis' family.will let you know. i still live in effingham. sharon_gerhardt@yahoo.com if you would like to e-mail me.
