Researching in Illinois is new to me. I am looking for information on a James H. Bailey born N.C.. All I have to go on is a Page copied from a book that no one knows what book it came from, that says:
Pack 13 James H. BAILEY. Petition for admistration 19 Mar 1842. Lidia Bailey, adm., bond signed by Allen Bailey. Appraisers were Akin Evins, Abner, Flack, and Harrison Thomson. Listed were clothes, books, chairs, a "falling leg table", bed stead, guns, etc. Estated owed Sampson Miles on a note, Jesse Luster, Greenup Bird, George S. Willis, Absalom Conner, Abner Flack, Black Dan, James Johnson and William Linn. What I found out when I ran these names thru a search is that they were all in the Vandalia Ill. area. and that Greenup Bird was a slave.
This appears to me to be some type of probate listing and all the other listings on this page were of the same nature.
So does this mean that James H. Bailey is dead, and died around March 19, 1842? If so where or what other records are available for me to confirm this? I noticed that the court house burned. Are there any tax records available for these years, or back to 1837. Has anyone published any cememtery books, or is there anyone who does look ups? I need help. This James H. Bailey matches my Baileys in DNA but we really do not know how he connects, we have some theories but that does not count, we need proof. So anything will help, thanks in advance.
