Hi Dick, thanks for the reply. Here is all that I know.
My mother's name was Josephine Ladon Thacker, she was born October 9, 1908 in Centralia, Illinois (Marion County). Her father was listed on the birth certificate as Jesse Thacker, and his age was listed as 30 (guessing birth year probably 1878). That is the extent of the factual information I have about him.
In an 1880 census record, I found a Jesse F Thacker (2 years old, making birth year 1878?), son of James F and Mary Haley Thacker. This Jesse's place of birth was given as Loudon, Illinois (Fayette County).
That is really all the information I have. I don't even know that Jesse F from Loudon, Illinois is the one I am
looking for. I am only thinking that the two counties are right next to one another, it is the right birth year, and the name isn't all that common. And people didn't travel far like they do today. So maybe there is a connection.
My grandfather Jesse left the family a couple of years after my mother's birth, and no one heard from him after that.
