Dear Jane!
Wonderful to hear from you. I have accumulated some information on the Wenzel's through their connections with the Zirkelbach's. This begins here in Armstrong Township of Vanderburgh County Indiana and carried over to Gallatin County. No fewer that three Wenzel's (children of Peter and Theresia) married Zirkelbach's (children of Andrew and Maria) including:
o William Joseph Zirkelbach married Anna Katherine Wenzel
o Mary C. Zirkelbach married John M. Wenzel
o Anna Barbara Zirkelbach married George W. Wenzel.

George Wenzel died on 20 Sep 1898 in Gallatin, and is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery. This left Anna a widow with six children. (A seventh had died in 1892.) She was living in Pigeon Township of Evansville with her children. Bennet and Co's 1900 Evansville City Directory shows Barbara, widow of George, living at 232 L 5th, and working as a dressmaker. With her in the directory was her daughter Celia M. Wenzel, and there was a Rose Wenzel listed as a Domestic. Rose was probably the daughter of John M. Wenzel. (Younger children would not have been listed.)
There was also a gentleman from Gallatin named Frank Bauer, who married Katarina Wenzel, the sister of Anna, John, and George. Katarina/Katherine died in Gallatin on 27 Dec 1899, having given birth to nine children, of whom at least one had died early. (She and Frank were married at St. Wendel on 05 Feb 1884)
So here is Frank, whose wife (a Wenzel) had just died, and here is Anna Barbara, whose husband (a Wenzel) had died a year earlier. To make a long story short, Anna and Frank were married on 23 May 1901. I'm not sure if this is when Anna's children were dispersed to various relatives (including Zirkelbach's) or not.
This marriage did not last, as Anna Barbara died on 23 May 1902. Frank would marry Cecelia Haas in 1907.
His three wives are buried together in St. Joseph's Cemetery near Ridgway with the dates:
Cecilia (1876 - 1945)
Barbara (1864 - 1902)
Katie (1864 - 1899)

We have photographs of the farm land that Peter Wenzel worked in Vanderburgh County, as well as plat maps. I've also visited many Wenzel graves in Gallatin at St. Joseph Cemetery and Immaculate Conception, and can forward this.

Last, I would love to share information, and I have met two other ladies who are descended from Wenzel's and may be interested in sharing with you.

If you would like, please contact me at mbnn@msn.com

Best wishes and God Bless,

Mike
