Seeking Mary (Carman?) Rowcroft Smith:
b Jul 1837 (according to family Bible) (censuses say 1837-1840)
in IL? (All censuses but one give her places of birth as IL: 1860 IO, 1865 IL, 1880 IL, 1885 blank, 1895 IL.)
Baby book says paternal great grandmother: Carman
Is she possibly from Carman, Henderson, IL?
Mary (Carman?) married (1) Isaac Rowcroft (b 31 May 1834 Stockport, Cheshire, Eng; d by 1867 Miami Co, KS)
1856 census IO, Des Moines, Washington Twp - 22 & single, living with parents Mark & Isabella Rowcroft
Des Moines Co, IO is diagonally across the Mississippi from Carman, IL.
1860 census KS, Lykins (Miami), Mound Twp - 24 & married to Mary.
Family Bible records child Sarah b & bur 18 Jan 1858,
therefore likely m. in 1857.
Mary (Carman?) Rowcroft m. (2) 13 Jun 1867 Miami Co, KS
Samuel Smith (11 Mar 1830 Stockport, Cheshire, Eng; 16 May 1900 Osawatomie, Miami, KS):
dau. Laurella Elizabeth Smith who m. Albert J. Walthall.
They were my grandparents.
The town of Carman was settled in 1842, & platted by Joseph Carman in 1870. Does anyone have info on this Carman family?
