Since searching the 1880 Butler County, Kansas U.S. Federal Census, I've encountered a problem with the identity of Dr. Christopher M. Hughey (listed as Hewey in the Census)'s children. The census lists Ophilia, Etta, and Ted, all born in Illinois. The Hugheys had previously lived in Spring Garden, Jefferson County, Illinois, and on the 1860 census, Ophelia A. was listed as being 11 months old. On the 1880, she's twenty. In 1880, Etta is 16 and Ted is 8. Effie's birthdate is August 8, 1864, which is the same as Etta's; however, Effie's not listed in the 1880 Census, but is married in Lompoc, California April 13, 1887. Can anyone corroborate the fact that Effie was the nickname of Ophelia Hughey? Or are Effie and Etta the same person and not twins? Or did the census enumerator make a mistake listing the names of Christopher and Martha Jane's children? I am eager for a reply.
