In 1843 there was a marriage between Sarah Chaffin and Hugh Weldon in Jefferson Co. Illinois.
I would like to know if there were any other persons of the Chaffin surname in or around Jefferson county during this time period. I didn't see any Chaffins in the 1840 federal census for this county so I'm wondering if someone who has access to other records (state census, tax records etc.) would be willing to do a records look-up for me (would be much appreciated).
The (William Chaffin) family I'm researching lived in Smith Co. Tennessee during the early and mid 1800's; though they definitely had a connection to Illinois during and after the Civil War -- several members moved to Pope and Franklin counties.
== But the marriage of Sarah Chaffin proves that there was an Illinois family connection going back well before the Civil War. Her being married in Illinois is the anomaly.
