In trying to sort out the unattached Harlows in my data I found one who is not a Harlow and wanted to pass on the discovery to save others the time I spent searching.

Illinois Statewide Marriage Index
SLEDGE, JAMES R HARLOW, FANNEY O 07/03/1870 003/ 00000101 JEFFERSON

Just to be sure, I checked the original license at the Jefferson County Courthouse. The bride’s surname is clearly HARLAN, not Harlow. For anyone researching these families, the bride appears in the following census entries:

1870 T2 R4, Jefferson Co., IL
James R. Sledge 21 IL
Fanny O. 18 <<<<
next to
John Harlan 51 KY
Harlan, Jemimah 45 IL
Gregory, William 12 Il
Gregory Wylie 12 IL
Gregory, Nancy 9 IL
John Harlan married Jemima Gregory 9/29/1868
also next to Zebulon Sledge, father of James R. Sledge

1860 T2 R4, Jefferson Co., IL
John Harland 41 KY
Mary R. 15 IL
Florence 13 IL
Frances O. 7 IL <<<<<

This is her father’s household, before her birth:
1850 Jefferson Co., IL
John Harlin32 Ky
Elizabeth 25 KY
Mary R. 5 Il
Florence Taylor _____ Harlin 3 IL
Eliza Harlin 6/12 IL
William Friend 22 KY School Teacher
Mary Harlin 75 NC
Clarissa Harlin 35 KY

John Harlan’s land was in sections 1 & 2 of Webber Township, the northeast corner of the township.
