FINNEY/ELKINS in Johson Co., IL

I am posting this in hopes of finding someone who can help me connect my ancestry to two families who appear in the Johnson County, IL records.

I am trying to link my ancestor, Andrew Jackson FINNEY (b. ca 1820- d. 10 Mar 1869 in Montgomery Co., IL) to two possible parents. They were Sarah REYNOLDS (b. ca 1775-d. ca 1845) and John FINNEY (b. ca. 1765-d.1837).

I have no primary sources substantiating this connection. If my inferences are correct, Andrew Jackson ("Jack") was Greenville Penn FINNEY's older brother.

My strongest piece of evidence is the 1840 US federal census, and my logic goes something like this:
* Sarah FINNEY - by then widow of John - was a neighbor of a William ELKINS.
* Andrew Jackson FINNEY married Beatrice "Beady" ELKINS (b. ca 1827-d. 26 Mar 1857) in 1842 (in Montgomery County). (Her mother was Mary Polly PHILLIPS, b. 1790-d. ca 1851).
* Beady's father was named William ELKINS (b. ca 1794 in KY or NC-d. Mar 1870 in Madison Co., IL).

The record for William's family lists a female of Beady's age at the time. This, coupled with the above, leads me to believe there may be a connection between my FINNEY/ELKINS lines and those from Johnson County.

If any of this sounds familiar, or if you have tips you think might be useful, please let me know.

Sally
