Hi Vicki,

Thank you for your kind offer. I have located two deaths in the Illinois State-wide Death Index and come up with the following:

Minerva E. MERRITT who died January 7, 1923, in Venice.

and her daughter

Ada V. CARPENTER who died September 23, 1940, also in Venice.

I believe Ada was the mother of Venice Fire Chief, Elmer Carpenter.
