The information I have came from a Smith-Higgason descendant. (I'm not sure of his sources yet.) He wrote: "...Polly later married John Tinkler, a Campbellite preacher...His step-son, John Higgason, worked all day at a cane mill for a gallon of molasses worth 17 cents...Polly died and is buried beside her parents...John Tinkler married again so now John Higgason had a step-father and step-mother." (I didn't type out all of it.)
It also says that John Higgason left home at the age of 18. I'm working on finding out when Polly died. Could it be that Polly died after 1850, John being a young child, everyone thought he was John Tinkler's son?
My John Higgason married Mary Susan Chasteen on 4-20-1865.
I think we are talking about the same people. Just need to find out what info is correct. Let me know what you think. I will be happy to share what info I have. Thanks again, Michelle
