Thanks for the lead, Lisa. It turns out that the Marion County Genealogical and Historical Society is housed in the basement of the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem, IL. The library's hours M-F are 12 noon - 8 pm. The society is headed by Harold Broyles (or Boyles)who can usually be reached at 618-548-2500.

Harold told me he knows of no obituary for Cuthbert Cheely, who died at Iuka in 1867. He also knows of no library microfilm collection of newspapers that would have covered Iuka in 1867......Kent
