I am searching for any MOODY's who may have ended up in Marshall County, IL that were actually born in the New England states of NH, ME, MA, VT or even possibly from NY as many of the Moody's who went West of New England, came from NY but were born in some of these New England states.
I am trying to help a co-researcher who may be related to me as well, in searching for Moody's in Marshall Co., that received land grants for service during the Rev. War.
Clement Moody and his brother James Moody were two from NH that received land grants in this county in or around 1818.
First we were perplexed as to why land grants were given that far from NH, perhaps someone with more knowledge of the Rev. War can answer that for us, and 2nd would it be possible for heirs of the soldier's family to take these land grants even after the soldier himself had died?
This appears to be the case in James MOODY's case, only it doesn't appear that any of his family accepted the land in IL. At this point we just don't know.
It is James Moody that I am most interested in and my fellow cousin-co-researcher is interested in James brother Clement Moody. Again both men served in the Rev. War and both were brothers from New Hampshire.
Some of Clement's family, I believe his daughter Dolly Fiske might have taken the land in IL.
If anyone can help us with this we would sure be Very greatful to you.
