Hi Chuck,
Thank you for your interest and help. I still haven't found anything else on this family.
I have struck out in Bureau County IL and they lived there during 2 children's births.
I have 5 different places of birth for the father George William Clifton.

Alabama (from obit)
Indian Territory (from 1889 diary)
Illinois (from census)
Memphis, TN (from grandmother delayed birth certificate-this was in 1935 -5 years after he had died)
Pennsylvania (delayed birth certificate for child No.4 Bertha)

I also have a 10 year span of birthdates for him 1866-1876! I am inclined to follow the 1866 date.

His wife May McDonald is just as elusive! (one hint I have for her is she was born in Missouri and her father Scottish and mother German) and she was supposed to have abandoned the family in Pawnee Illinois and came back to Missouri guessing 1908, remarried and had twins as 1910 census shows only George with children in Illiois.

My grandmother was the baby, Mayme and she didn't remember her mother and never really know her father as the 3 youngest girls were placed in foster care, Lester ran away and joined the service and one baby had died in Spring Valley, IL.
I will just keep searching and hope something turns up.

Thank you again for your help.
Michelle
