I am Diana Sluder. I am working on my genealogy and went into genforum.com last week. I saw that you posted an inquiry about William Norris who was born 1790 way back in April of 2000. He is my ggg grandfather from Greene County, Illinois. You had found him in the Illinois 1860 census living as the head of a household. with Elizabeth (33), James (6), Simon B. 7/12 and Francis 18. In the 1850 census William Norris is listed with wife Susan (also Norris) (45), Jackson (16) Elizabeth (14) and Francis (12). I have gone to the county court house of Greene County, Illinois and was able to get the settlement papers of William Norris's estate. William Norris died in 1860. The estate was handled by his oldest living son who was Alexander Norris. He listed the living children as of William Norris as including: Alexander Norris, John Norris, Ellen Bowman, Minerva, Elizabeth Hall (my gg grandmother), Andrew Norris, James W. Norris, and Simon B Norris. The estate did not recognize that he had a living wife so I am assuming his wives either died or maybe they were divorced. I have struggled with finding out more about William Norris. I did find that a William Norris married Susana Norris (already a Norris) on 21 April 1847 and that a William Norris married a Mrs. Betsey Ann Perrine on 13 April 1854. I would have to get the marriage records of these to see how they fit. Anyway, I am hoping this email gets to you and that you can correspond with me and check notes, documentations. I do live in Illinois near Peoria in a smaller city named Washington.
