George Washington "Jumbo" McGinnis was the star pitcher for the St. Louis Browns in the 1800s. The Browns joined the National League in 1892 and became the St. Louis Cardinals. In the "St. Louis Magazine" of March 1986, baseball historian Jim Rygelski wrote that the "first man to sign a Browns contract (was) George 'Jumbo' McGinnis, a pitcher with the physique of a blacksmith..." This message is posted by Jumbo's great-grandaughter, "Casey" McGinnis Croy.

Harry (1886-1952) married Cecilia Veronica Power(s) in St. Louis, MO. They had four children: Katherine, Ruth, George Robert and Nancy McGinnis. George Robert (1909-1987) is my father. He married Mary Sauer (1912-2004)and they had two children -- me (1942) and Michael McGinnis (1948). I live in the City of St. Louis and have info about Jumbo's baseball career. I'm looking for info about his parents and their immigration and other roots in "the auld sod."
