George's death certificate is downloadable from the Missouri Archives website. It says he died 18 May 1934 in St. Louis and the informant was Addie McGinnis. His date of birth was 22 Feb 1864 (though this doesn't seem correct). Father's name was Richard McGinnis from Ireland and mother's name is very hard to read - looks like Minta Moss(??), birthplace unknown. George is buried in Calvary Cemetery. He died of stomach cancer. Here is the link to look at the certificate yourself: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/#search You may be able to request an obituary lookup from the St. Louis Public Library. They are found in the 1880 census in St. Louis: 1880/MO/St.Louis/St.Louis McGinnis, Geo/24/married/glassblower/MO __ NC McGinnis, Katie/22/IRE IRE IRE McGinnis, George/1/MO MO IRE Sherlock, Lizzie/sister-in-law/17/IRE IRE IRE I've tried to find him in earlier censuses but so far no luck, at least not with a father named Richard. There is a George McGinnis born about the right time living in St. Louis in 1860 and 1870 who has a father named Jesse (who has died by 1870) and a mother named Mary, plus sisters Alice, Ada and Lilly. What doesn't fit is that George pretty consistently says in later censuses that his mother came from NC and the Mary McGinnis in these earlier censuses was born in MO. I also checked Calvary cemetery records which are online to see who was buried with George. Unfortunately it's just his immediate family - no parents are there. Good luck - Nancy (I am not related) Notify Administrator about this message?
