46th Wisconsin Infantry
The Forty-Sixth Infantry was composed principally of farmers from the nor th-western counties of the State. The regiment rendezvoused at Camp Randal l, Madison and was organized under the supervision of Colonel F. S. Lovel l, formerly Lieutenant Colonel of the Thirty-third. Most of the officers h ad served in other regiments. The roster was as follows:

March 2d, the regiment was mustered in, and on the 5th left the state f or Louisville, Kentucky, where it arrived on the 10th. Leaving that pla ce the next day, it proceeded to Athens, Alabama on the Nashville and Deca tur Railroad arriving on the 24th of April. Colonel Lovell was appointed p ost commandant and the Lieutenant Colonel assumed command of the regimen t, detachments of which where posted along the railroad to guard it again st guerrillas. Many of the officers were temporarily detached to ser ve on a general court-martial. September 27th, 1865, the regiment was must ered out and started for Wisconsin arriving at Madison, October 2d where t he men received their pay and were disbanded. Colonel Lovell was brevett ed Brigadier General for meritorious services during the war.
No additions were made to the roster.
Regimental Statistics.-Original strength, 914. gain: by recruits in 186 5, 33; total, 947. Loss:-by death, 13; desertion, 8; transfer, 31; dischar ge, 41; muster-out, 854.

Chapman
Shoemaker's Point was the stage coach station and community center in t he southwest part of the county in the early 1860's. After its abandonmen t, several years elapsed before the first business building was built in C hapman in 1871, by Messrs. L. Reed and C. A. Leake for a general trading s tore. The first real general store was opened in 1873, by J. I. Walker, w ho sold to W. H. Morris in 1877.
In 1878, the first bridge across the Platte at Chapman was built, openi ng up a good trade territory from northern Hamilton County. Chapman then g rew rapidly in size and importance.
The first school in Chapman was taught by Mrs. Enoch Aurand in her ho me in 1871. In 1872, a public school building was erected.
Chapman was named after a roadmaster of the Union Pacific railroad. John D onivan, the local section boss, was the first postmaster.

She was united in marriage to Harlen Franklin Osborn
February 10, 1889 in Gosper county Nebraska. To this union were
born:'nine chIldren, three of whom preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband,
six chlldren: Earl and George Osborn of Xeystone. Nebr.;
Mable Pierce of Ogallala,Keystone Nebr.; Vernon Osborn and Blanch
Leake of Arapahoe and Alma Pierce of Portland, Ore., who
was unable to attend funeral services because of Illness; one
sister Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Arapahoe.- thirtyfour grandchildren
and eleven great grandchildren besides other relatives and many
friends.
Mrs. Osborn has lived at Arapahoe; for the past eleven
years. She was I a member of the Christian church.,'
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from
the Andrews Funeral Home with N.S.Carpenter officiating.
Interment! 'Arapahoe cemetery.

Funeral services were held at the Andrews Funeral Home
here Tuesday, for Harlan F. Osborn, who passed away last Saturday
at the home of a daughter at Ogallala. Mr. Osborn was a resident: here
for 17 years until going to Ogallala last spring.
"Harlie" who would have been 90 years old in February,
remained an unusually active man until the last yeah of his life.
Born in Inddiana, he lived many years in the Turkey Creekneighborhood
northeast of Edison, before moving to Garden County in 1909.
In 1936 he came with his wife to make his home here. (Ogallala).
Surviving him are three sons and three daughters,
all of Ogallala. Two sons, George and Vernon, and a daughter, Blanche,
(Mrs John Leake) are former residents here.
Burial was in Arapahoe Cewemetary. Nov. 19, 1953.
