JOHN AVERY - ILLINOIS CIVIL WAR VETERAN
Posted by: Jmes Gray (ID *****3396) Date: December 14, 2008 at 01:43:14

I am trying to acquire information on an individual that was supposedly born in Australia, moved to Illinois and served with the 140th Illinois Infantry during the American Civil War. His name was John Avery, residence was listed as Portland, Illinois, he enlisted as a Private on 5/161864,
he applied for a pension on 11/4/1890 from the state of Iowa, application number 949,822, and he is listed in the Illinois Roster of Officers and Enlisted Men.

I need any information available on his birth, family and life, his death and where he is buried.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

James Gray
