Dekalb co. is in north central Il. My ref. to Carlton is a book "American Place Names of Long Ago" authored by Gilbert S. Bahn. This was compiled by Mr. Bahn from records of the 1890 census before it was destroyed. A later ref I found may place Carlton in Afton twp., Dekalb co. And with all due respect Mary, I don't trust your soc. security source any more than I would trust a used car dealer. But,,,,, the ss person must have been looking at a copy of an ss5. You get that record and make me a believer. Dick
