Sometimes, children were boarded out to be able to attend school. However, my father-in-law didn't work in the mines; but he did drive wagons,and I used to have a few of his toll road receipts. They could have been in the back country. My father was a construction man, and I had to live with a classmate's family, while my parents were up in the mountains; so I could attend school--junior high.
