Hillsboro Ills Sept 13, 1870
My Dear Sister, (Ales Bentley Martin of MO.)
I have just met a neighbor of yours who gives me news from you, and kindly offers to carry This to you, I am now visiting my children, going round and spending a few days with each. I spent the greater part of the summer that way, my health is better than it was when I wrote you before, my wife's health is good, we are both enjoying good health for people of our a ge, we still live in Greenville Ills, I am now in Hillsboro twenty miles from home making a visit to my son in law J. Hanson Jones. I propose to go next to my granddaughter Celia Moss and see her family. I am now 86 years old I am not able to attend to business, and I intend to spend the time till cold weather if I live visiting my children spending a few days with each. My oldest daughter Nancy is living in Elm Point, eight miles from my home.
She is living alone her husband is dead, Edith lives in Elm Point, her name is Fairchild she has one daughter Rebecca Jett, Rebecca has five sons and one daughter, my next daughter Sarah Davis lives eight miles from Hillsboro. She has three sons four daughters and seven grandchildren My next daughter Margaret Robinson lives near her alone on her farm. I have two sons living Samuel lives in Carlyle Ills with his family, William and his family live in Hennepin Ills (un-readable)
My sisters Sally and Lucy were living and in good health last march Sally lives in Lauderdale Co., Alabama near where she did when you left, Lucy lives in Tennessee below Lawrenceburg, and in the corner of the adjoining county, and old D Bumpus is yet living 125 years old, my youngest son in law is living alone in Hillsboro, he keeps a
Photograph gallery, and sends you the pictures of himself and his buried wife Mary. I omitted to mention in order My daughter Elizabeth she lives in Greenville with her husband John P. Garland she has four sons and two daughters, My two sons Garner and Balaam have been dead many years their children are grown up and scattered from Vermont to Texas, Let me hear from you as often as you can and write as soon as you can.
