Bandy and Williams

I am researching my Great-Grandfathers parents and have come to dead-end. I believe his parents may have been Allen B. Williams and Sarah E. Bandy.

My Great-Grandfather was was William Marion Williams, born May 16, 1857, in Raymond Twp, Montgomery Co., IL. and died in Norfolk Nebraska on 30 Oct 1892. I know this to be fact because I have family records and obituaries that state this. But, I have know ancestors beyond William.

At this point, Allen B. Williams and Sarah E. Bandy are only a guess until I can prove it.

According to the Tenth U.S Census, Allen B. Williams’ father hailed from Illinois and his mother came from Kentucky. However, the Ninth U.S. Census only indicates that Allen came from Illinois. The Ninth U.S. Census for Allen B. Williams, shows the enumeration was in Montgomery County, Illinois, the same county where it is known that William Marion Williams was born and the 10th U.S. Census shows the same county where it is known William lived in 1880 (Marion, Harrison County, MO). Both of these censuses show that Allen was born approximately 1830, he was a farmer, and he had three children: William M., Mary A., and Joseph A. Here is where the first of many discrepancies are noted. The Ninth U.S. Census does not show a mother for these children, yet the Tenth Census shows a mother named Sirelda, born approximately 1830. If my theory is correct, then one would have to assume that Sirelda was a step mother, even though the census does not indicate this. There are other documents available that indicate that possibly the three children mentioned above may have had a mother named Sarah E., but this cannot be proved and additional research is still ongoing.

According to the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763–1900 at http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/MarriageSearchServlet, it states that an Allen B. Williams married a Sarah E. Bandy on 23 Jul 1856. That would be nine months prior to William's birth.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here or can someone point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance,
Jack
