To Lisa Oathout:

Hi Lisa,

I am familiar with John Evans and Rebecca Osborn.

Descendants of John Evans

Generation No. 1

1. JOHN1 EVANS He married REBECCA OSBORN October 06, 1822 in Warren County Kentucky, daughter of REUBEN OSBORN and MARTHA DUNN. She was born in North Carolina.

Notes for REBECCA OSBORN:
Rebecca and her husband went to Missouri.

More About JOHN EVANS and REBECCA OSBORN:
Marriage: October 06, 1822, Warren County Kentucky

Children of JOHN EVANS and REBECCA OSBORN are:

i.       MARGARET2 EVANS, m. J. W. CLAYPOOL.

ii.       JOHN BENJAMIN EVANS.

iii.       R. B. EVANS.

iv.       MARTHA A. EVANS.

v.       JONATHON EVANS.

vi.       WILLIAM EVANS.

vii.       NEWMAN EVANS.

viii.       FREDERICK EVANS.

ix.       THOMAS B. EVANS.

Unfortunately I have not researched the Evans lineage, but perhaps someone else in Montgomery County, Illinois can extend these lines.

Rebecca Osborn was born in North Carolina, the daughter of Rueben Osborn and Martha Elisabeth Dunn. Her grandparents were Jeremiah Osborn III and Mary Newmann. After Mary Newmann died in North Carolina Jeremiah Osborn III and many of his children and their families migrated into Kentucky including the parents of Rebecca Osborn. Rueben Osborn and Martha Elisabeth Dunn lived and died in Warren County, Kentucky west of Bowling Green near the small town of Claypool, Kentucky.

Many of the Osborn and Claypool and allied family members are buried in the Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery just west of Claypool, Kentucky.

This is a 3 generation outline of Reuben Osborn and Martha Elisabeth Dunn's family:

Note that Easom Osborn son of Jeremiah Osborn and Anna Wilson also settled in Montgomery County, Illinois. Easom's father Jeremiah Osborn was the eldest son of Reuben Osborn and Martha Elisabeth Dunn. Easom Osborn's descendants in Montgomery and Macoupin Counties in Illinois are many. One of his sons named John William Osborn, 1842-1908 was in the 9th Illinois Calvary in the Civil War. He is buried in Chapman Cemetery south of Mt. Olive, Illinois in Macoupin County along with scores of his descendants. As a small child I knew Hiram B. Osborn a retired Mt. Olive coal miner who lived in Schram City, Illinois on the edge of Hillsboro. I remember him visiting his son Reverend William Lyle Osborn who lived across the street from my granparents.

The ancestry of Reuben Osborn father of Rebecca is as follows: Jeremiah Osborn III (1729-1806) and Mary Newmann; Jeremiah Osborn (ca 1695- ca 1765) born Morris County, New Jersey; Jeremiah Osborne (born 1661 East Hampton, Long Island died 1766 Morris County New Jersey);
Stephen Osborne (born Ashford Kent England, 1633) and Sarah Stansborough; Thomas Osborne and Mary Goatley from Ashford Kent England. Thomas Osborn and Mary Goatley migrated to Massachusetts Bay about 1635 and can be found on the map of "9 Squares of New Haven" in 1641. By 1650 they migrated with their family to settle in East Hampton Long Island while still maintaining the family tannery business in New Haven. Thomas Osborn was recorded as the first town Constable of East Hampton.

His sons Stephen, Jeremiah, and Joseph migrated into Elizabetown New Jersey in 1666 when they participated in the Purchase of the Elizabeth Town Grants, a direct purchase of about 5 counties of New Jersey from the Indians with the permission of the "Crown". Stephen took his young son Jeremiah Osborne along to the purchase ceremony. His knowledge of the purchase would later be part of his testimony before the New Jersey Colonial Supreme Court in 1641 when he gave a lengthy deposition at 80 years of age. The land tenure was being challenged. Nearly 75 years after these 5 counties of New Jersey were purchased with permission of the crown, a new king had granted conflicting land titles to others. Resolution took many years. The Osbornes in New Jersey living near Morristown and their allied family members and neighbors defended their land rights and were called "The Tinker's Rights Men". Finally they won their law suit, but meanwhile scores of family members migrated into western Virginia and to the New River area in western North Carolina. Jeremiah Osborne who gave the lengthy deposition before the New Jersey Supreme Court lived to be quite old dying at 106 years of age in 1766.

His son Jeremiah Osborne II migrated into Hardy County, Virginia, now in West Virginia, and settled on the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River along with his sons George Osborn who married Hannah Westfall, John Osborn who married Elisabeth Claypool, Jeremiah Osborn III who married Mary Newmann, and daughters Phoebe Osborn who married Henry Harris and Abigail Osborn who married Joseph Claypool.

The descendants of Reuben Osborn and Martha Elisabeth Dunn that migrated to Montgomery County Illinois from Warren County Kentucky had relatives and allied family members in Montgomery County, Illinois. The early settlement of Hurricane near the Montgomery County and Fayette County line had many early Warren County Kentucky migrants. The Supinger, Wilson and Whitten families are among them. Additionally my line descending from John Osborn and Elizabeth Claypool through their grandson Levi Osborn who married Mary Eveline Combest migrated north of Hillsboro from the Green River Knob in Casey County Kentucky along with his brothers: James; Warren; Bailey;and Riley, plus sisters Elizabeth and her husband Travis Elliot, and Mary and her husband Perry Irving for whom Irving, Illinois was named.

Please note that I would also like to hear from anyone having more information on these Evans family descendants.

Best Wishes,

Jim Osborne
