Poisoning at Tamoroa

About a week before his death on 4 Mar 1863 my gr gr grandfather, Anderson Bird Randolph of Ewing Twp., Franklin Co., Il. was in Tamoroa. While there he was supposedly poisoned by a druggist who was a southern sympathizer.
Does anyone know anything about this?

I understand it was quite a good distance to ride, perhaps half a day, from him home in Ewing Twp. to Tamoroa. There must have been some thing important happening there that day - perhaps a rally of some sort, a political speech?

Can anyone help me find my gr gr grandfather's poisoner? I need to find out what was happening there in the week before 4 Mar.

Could someone who knows local history answer this question? Or could someone tell me if there was a newspaper there or around that area at that time which might have written something about this poisoning.

I guess he died a horrible lingering death, lasting almost a week.

Please help if you can.
