I was born in Cairo, Illinois. I have never heard of the town Marseilles. On Jul 20, 2004 I was in the area and drove from Pulaski to Villa Ridge on Route 51. There was a farm house here and there but no town. During the Civil War, there was a camp for 109th Illinois Infantry in the area of Villa Ridge. Perhaps the town existed only to support the military and was abandoned after the war.
