Hi Linda: Francois Noises (also Labbe and Nosiet dit Labbe) of Cahokia, was married to Marie Saint Yves. I have a copy of their marriage license in French. His widow later married two others. I also have some of his estate papers. One is for the Election of Guardians for his minor children. The guardians to be his Widow and also the children's maternal uncle, Pierre Godin dit Tourangeaux. Later there is a paper where the widow of Godin is asking to be let out of her husbands guardinship of the "minor Labbe children". The court has determined that relatives must meet and decide who should take over guardinship. This is mention several places--in different books. This Godin was a very important citizen of Cahokia according to the book: "Collections of the Illinois State Historical Library, Vol II", pg 631 footnote 90. The Widow and court case mentioned above are on page 37 of this book. Date of court case is Febuary 4, 1780. (I can provide additional sources when my email comes up concerning Godin and his Widow and the guardinship of the Labbe minors.) This same book, on page 627, lists "francois Noize'" on the "Census, August, 1787" of Cahokia. It gives a footnote 37 which reads: "Noiset called Labbe'. His father was Nicolas, who married at Cahokia January 16, 1758,Marie St. Yves. The river Labbe',in Cahokia, was evidently named after the family, which had a mill on the stream." Note: this shows that Francois Nicolas Noiset dit Labbe also went by his middle name of Nicolas. This can sometimes be confusing since the son may have also been named Francois Nicolas. Francois was also known as Francois Nicolas Noise and had lived in St Phillippe too (now part of Indiana). Jacobo or Jacques Noise married Theresa Beaugenou and according to Houck in his book History of Missouri, Chapter on 'Spanish In Missouri', he later married "Catherine, the widow of Bidet, dit Langoumois." He is listed as the son of Nicolas Noiset and Marie St Yves. (58 footnote 26). According to the "Sacramental Records of The Roman Catholic Church of The Archdiocese of New Orleans, Vol 1, 1718-1750 I found the following: (pg 199) "Noisel (Noiset) Gerard (Nicolas and Catherine Barbe), of this parish, i. Nov. 26, 1727 (AN,F 1727-28,42) Nicolas (dec. Jean Noiset, former resident of Noirval, and Elizabeth Renaud, resident of Noirval), native of Noirval, Diocese of Reims, m. Catherine Barbe, Dec. 29, 1725, w. Louis Jarry, Francois P(u?)ralbe, resident this parish, Antoine Pleyard, a soldier of the company of Le Blanc, Nicolas D'Artel, soldier of the company of Dartaguiette (SCL, M1, 93)" The above book also mentions some Labbe names and I will send these hopefully in an email to you tomorrow or the next day. I have been looking at a Jean Labbe' who might be the Jean Noiset mentioned as the father of Nicolas Noiset(see above). But more on that later. The key to the above is: i=interred; AN=Archives Nationales in Paris; dec= deceased; m.=married; w=witness; SCL=St. Louis Church(Cathedral),New Orleans; letter in () with a ? means letter hard to read; SCL M1=St Louis Cathedral Marriages, 1720-1730, local resigster. 227 pages. NOTE: I have seen the spelling of NOISEL for NOISET before. One other place is in the Fisher records. I will send those later too. That is all for this message and will try to check my email tomorrow and see if I can send you more of what I have. Hope to hear from you soon. Frances Notify Administrator about this message?
