I have a picture of my great grandfather, Alva Clarence Henderlite, that has an inscription on it stating that it was taken while he was working for the "Express Office" in Randolph County, IL (probably somewhere in the 1890's). I then find that he worked as a drayman when he moved his family to Farmington, MO between 1908 and 1918. His drayman employer is also listed as having worked at the "Express Office." What does this mean? American Express? Post Office? Does anyone have an answer to this odd question?
Thanks! :)
