During the heyday of the RR industry and before the airline and trucking idustries flowered. The fastest shipping method was by Railway Express. Most large cities and towns had a Railway Express Office which were serviced by the local drayage. Most all fast trains on the main lines had a special "Express" car though some shipments were handled in the baggage car. In smaller towns and those on trunk lines shipments were handled by the local RR Agent.
