Thank you so much for the information! This answers a lot of questions that I had about my great grandfather's occupation. Now, I have another question.... as the railways were replaced by trucks and airplanes and other modes of shipping, did the dray wagon drivers that serviced the trains loose jobs or forced to find other fields of employment? My understanding about my great-grandfather was that he wasn't really a "worker." Apparently, he retired in his 30's. I am wondering if he lost his job as a dray wagon driver for the Express offices and then just didn't really find another one. I have been trying to unravel this family mystery.
