Hello James!

I wish I knew. What I do know is that a William Alexander was active in deep S. Illinois, in territory now assigned to Alexander County, named for him, and that he served in the first State's legislature. He had some influence and/or connections, because he founded the town of Americus and seemed to have correspondence with backes or investors in Ohio.

I would like to know if my William Alexander was the one you mentioned... was hoping early Territorial or state records might indicate who he was.
