Hi, I'm hoping that someone in or near Ft. Wayne might be willing to go to the library and search for a newspaper article for me...it concerns the hanging of Elijah Atchley for "a most heinous crime". I'm not sure where he was hanged, why he was hanged or indeed, WHEN he was hanged.
ELIJAH ATCHLEY was born in 1796 in Tennessee. He married SARAH OSBORN[E] about 1816. Their children were all born in Indiana; SOPHIA, 1817:SOLOMON OSBORN ATCHLEY, 1819 and MARGARET, 1820. His death occurred about 1823 and I believe it to have been in Indiana.
An Indiana cousin once told me that she had found that clipping but as she didn't know it was the ancestor we were looking for, she didn't get a copy and couldn't remember much about it.
