I am researching the Kirkpatrick family of Norwich in Muskingum County, Ohio. I have found that David Kirkpatrick Sr. was in Norwich, Ohio in the 1830 Census, along with his son Thomas Kirkpatrick and several younger sons. David Kirkpatrick moved prior to 1840 to Jay County, Indiana, and is listed as dying around Hartford in Blackford County, Indiana in the mid 1840s. These Kirkpatricks were originally from New Jersey. Thomas Kirkpatrick indicated on the 1850 Census of Norwich, Ohio that he was born in New Jersey. According to research in Blackford County, the David Kirkpatrick who is buried there served during the Revolutionary War in New Jersey.

Thomas Kirkpatrick and his wife, Nancy, are buried in the Norwich Presbyterian Cemetery. According to one book titled "A People Set Apart: The Scotch-Irish in Eastern Ohio" written by a Muskingum College professor by the name of Lorle Porter, the Presbyterian Church in Norwich was started by a man named James Arbuthnot, but soon afterwards the church split because of in-fueding between "New School" and "Old School" Presbyterians. The Reasoner family also seems to have been involved with the Presbyterian Church in Muskingum County, Ohio, and I notice that there were many Reasoners in Blackford County, Indiana.

Please contact me at zanedperry@hotmail.com for more Kirkpatrick information. I am not related to this family -- I am performing this research in honor of the Kirkpatrick family as I grew up in Coshocton County, Ohio just north of Muskingum County, Ohio and I am a close friend of Shawn Kirkpatrick who grew up in Walhonding in western Coshocton County, Ohio. Shawn is the son of William Arthur Kirkpatrick, son of Thomas Lee Kirkpatrick, son of Private Thomas Kirkpatrick (42nd Indiana Infantry, Company "K"), son of William Kirkpatrick, son of Thomas Kirkpatrick (who was born in New Jersey and died in Norwich, Muskingum County, OH), son of David Kirkpatrick (who was born in New Jersey and who is buried in Blackford County, Indiana).
