I am looking for any information on John Wesley Smith who was born in IN abt 1853 and prob. died abt Sept. 5, 1934? in Carroll County, IN.
His obituary was found in family papers and I think he belongs to the Solomon Smith family of Logan County, OH. He would probably be a grandson of this Solomon Smith.
Solomon Smith did have a son John Wesley, but this John Wesley seems to be born abt 1 generation later.
Here is his obituary as discovered in family papers:
"John Wesley Smith Expires at Delphi"
DELPHI, Sept. 5 -(Special)-
John Wesley Smith, 81, died last evening at his home, having suffered a stroke of apoplexy Sunday. He had been in ill health for four years. Mr. Smith lived with a son on a small farm at the edge of the city, having moved here from Clinton county 27 years ago. Surviving are four sons: Charles, at home: Omer, Delphi: Lawrence, Deerfield, Fla., and Earl of Lima, O. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of his son, Omer, Rev. H.B. Parker of the Presbyterian church officiating: burial in Davis cemetery."
Note the four sons Charles, Lawrence, Earl and Omer/(Homer as on 1910 census).
I found this family on the 1910 Deer Creek Twp., census.
And then John was with son Earl on the 1920 Lima, Allen Co., OH census.
Then 1930 with son Lawrence (Laurence) in Deerfield, Broward Co., FL.
Son Earl was in Lima, Allen Co., OH in 1920 & 1930.
Son Charles was living with brother, Lawrence in 1920 in Deer Creek Twp. Then maybe Charles m and is living in Deer Crk. Twp. in 1930? Not cerain this is the same Charles.
Son Lawrence in 1920 in Deer Creek Twp., 1930 in FL.
Son Homer (Omer) may be the Homer F. as found in 1920 & 1930 in Clinton Co., IN. Not certain this is the same Homer.
This obituary was found in the Rose family papers of Clinton Co., IN. Sina Vanover Rose's mother was the daugher of Amanada Ellen SMITH Darnell Vanover and Amanda was a dtr/of Solomon SMITH and Catherine SWAN of Logan Co., OH. So I am of the opinion that this John Wesley SMITH is somehow connected to the same Solomon SMITH family of Logan Co., OH. Do you know the connection?
