In 1848, Clay Co Ind, James Elmore Baits (age 10 as of 6 Dec 1847) was "bound out" as a "Bound Boy" to John Abraham Beckelhymer, farmer and wagon maker of Clay Co. This was done by the Overseer of the Poor for Clay Co, signed by William C. Morgan and Jesse McIntire. The "bound" was to be for a period untill James reached 21 years of age. It was to be to the advantage of both parties, as per area/era, and so listed. John A. Beckelhymer had a son dead, and two sons already married and away, with only a passle of daughters at home, so needed a "man" around the places. I have no ideal of the "history" of James Elmore Baits, or what happened to him, but sure would like to know. Thank you. Regards, Dick.
