My Davis relatives were from White Co.,IN where Abel Davis [c1765-1847] died. Abel was b. in MD lived in Monongalia Co., WV, Champaign Co., OH and finally to White Co. in 1835.
From memory I believe your John DAvis was b. in Hardy or Hampshire Co., VA moved to Ross Co., OH where he m. Miss Stookey. My John Davis [1800-1882] mentions in a deed he was of, "the county of Hardy, in VA". I believe he was living & working for a relative in Hardy Co. prior to his family moving to OH. He m. Mary Elizabeth "Isabella" Newland of <Frederick Co., VA>. She d. in White Co., IN 1844.
These two DAvis families may be related.
