I gave it another try. It paid off. Thank goodness I have an 1860 index CD for Indiana. Could not find the Totten name in Pike Co. so I requested "William" for the first name and "Jefferson" for the township where the family was in 1870. Then I went page by page in the index. There was the answer -- the last name was transcribed as "Lotten".

Eliza, 46, VA
Henry, 18, IN
Nancy, 16, IN
Eliza, 12, IN
