In 1808 Josiah Culbertson came to what became Washington twp, Daviess Co IN from Greenville Co SC. On the 1812 voters list for Hawkins twp, Knox Co IN, Josiah and his sons John, William D.T., Josiah Jr and Samuel are listed. Deeds place him here in 1808. History of Knox and Daviess Co IN has a lot of information on the early settlers here. It tells the story of the Indian fights in 1812 etc. It also names the settlers in each of the early forts. Josiah's son Samuel was killed in one of the Indian fights in 1812. His son WDT goes back to SC in 1814, then to AL and eventually MS. His son Joshua Jr and daughter Adeline [m James Robinson] are on the 1850 and 1860 census in Daviess Co, Josiah Sr having died in 1839. There were other daughters that I would like to find. Jane and Mary are two of them. Per Rev War Pension file, one of the daughters married a Funston. I would like to find a trace of these girls, or a descendant of Adeline. There was a son Andrew that remained in Union Co SC, so the daughters may also have remained in SC. If anyone is searching for Culbertson genealogy, I would love to correspond with you.
