I'm looking for a James? Burris Van Horn who supposedly died and is buried in Washington, Daviess County, IN. His wife, Mary Ann Martin whom he married on April 17, 1850 in Muskingum County, OH, also died and is supposedly buried in Daviess County. Burris, as he was known by family members, was a Civil War Veteran, having been a prisoner in Andersonville and a survivor of the Sultana Steamship Tragedy.
They were in Indiana by 1882 according to some affidavits recorded in Daviess County...and Burris was still alive in January of 1891 when proof of his war service was being proclaimed. One or more of their children, I believe, were also living there during that time and they were Jack Thornley, John Drake, William D., Francis (Frank), Edward, and daughter Elnora)! Burris, sometimes spelled Burriss, Burrows, Burross, Burrois, and Burres on various records may have had a first name of James, according to some family members. I believe his parents' names were Arthur and Lydia, who lived in Ohio. I am interested in the date of deaths for both Burris and Mary, and the cemetery where buried. Thank you!
