Seeking information and willing to share on the following families WRIGHT - HAWKINS - VEALE from Union District SC > Daviess Co., IN.
Roderick & Catherine Wright of Union District SC
known children born in SC:
James C. b. 1793 d 28 July 1843 bur Hawkins Prairie Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., IN / married 26 March 1823 Daviess Co., IN Sarah/Sally Hawkins daughter of John and Mary (Tyree/Tirey) Hawkins. James and Sarah/Sally had a son named Roderick. This name has carried forth in this family.
Lavenia b June 1798, d 23 Aug 1867, buried at Maysville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, married 2 Jan 1823 John Thomas, son of Bennett & Elizabeth Thomas.
Wiley b 7 Feb 1799, died 17 April 1855, buried at Maysville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, married 25 Dec 1824 Ann Coleman daughter of John Coleman. Wiley and Ann had a son named Roderick.
Catherine b 22 Jan 1803. d 8 Nov 1841, buried Bethel Cemetery East, Veale Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana married Edmund A. Thomas, son of Bennett and Elizabeth Thomas.
Possible other son: William b abt 1796 SC married 20 Jan 1820 Elizabeth Underwood (no other information available at this time)
Speculate that Roderick was born between 1756 and 1774.
The wife Catherine was born in 1763, may have been a second wife to Roderick. She died 16 March 1846 and is buried at the Maysville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana.
Roderick Wright and family is listed in 1790 and the 1800 U.S. Census records at Union District, SC near the Hawkins and James C. Veal families
In Mr. Halcomb's Court Records of Union District reference is made to petitions for a road to the Roderick Wright Plantation. The land was to be surveyed by James Veale
The wife, Catherine, and children left Union District South Carolina and are later found in Daviess Co., IN living near the James C. Veale, William and Eli Hawkins families.
Question what the connection was between the Wright, Veale & Hawkins families, if there was a blood connection in addition to being neighbors - possibly through Roderick's wife Catherine and/or the Right/Wright girls married to the Hawkins brothers.
Eldest known son named James C. Wright, possibly after James C. Veale (James Carr Veale)?
Eldest known daughter named Lavenia. possible after James C. Veale's wife Lavenia Townsend?
William Hawkins, son of Benjamin & Martha (Hollingsworth) Hawkins b 22 May 1775 married possibly in SC Sarah Right b 10 April 1777 both buried at Maysville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana. (unknown connection between Sarah Right & Roderick Wright, possible child of early marriage or sister?)
Eli Hawkins, son of Benjamin & Martha (Hollingsworth)Hawkins, b 18 Nov 1777 married possibly in SC Catherine Right b abt 1789. both buried at the Maysville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana – very near Catherine Right (mother of Wiley) (unknown connection between Catherine Right and Roderick Wright, possible child of early marriage or sister?)
Possible son William married Elizabeth Underwood in IN possible sister of Robert Underwood. Robert's fist wife Sarah Holingsworth, dau of Isaac & Mary Hollingsworth d 23 Dec 1847 is also buried in the Hawkins Prairie Cemetery, Washington Twp., Daviess Co., IN.
What is connection with Corneilia Ann Right/Daugherty widow of Thomas J. Dougherty, widow of Catherine Lucas (daughter of Jesse & Sarah Lucas) Catherine Lucas brother Sims Lucas was administrator of Wiley Wright's estate and guardian of Wiley & Ann's son John Coleman Right/Wright, Sims was living with Cornelia Daughtery at the time of his death and left his estate to Corneilia and his niece Catherine (dau of Catherine Lucas and Thomas J. Daughterty. After Sim's death John Coleman Wright was the ward of his uncle John Wright, son of James C. and Sarah/Sally (Hawkins) Wright
