Hello Mary - I thought I posted a follow-up yesterday, but I don't see it yet. Will try again. I am interested in the same group that you are. My great-grandfather Solomon Thomas was a brother of John and Edmund Thomas who married Lavina and Catherine Right; his sister Delila was the second wife of John T. Veale, and Solomon married Eliza Ann, daughter of John and Mary Hawkins in Daviess Co. I'm afraid I have no answers to your questions. The only odd bit of confirmed information I can offer is that in 1847 a Sarah Hawkins in Daviess Co. testified that she was a sister of John Carr Veale and that he married his wife Levina in South Carolina when Sarah was a little girl. In 1847 Sarah was 69 and could have been (1) the widow of William Hawkins--but he supposedly married a Right, or (2) the wife of Benjamin Hawkins, John's brother. Benjamin's wife was named Sarah, but I don't know her maiden name, and I don't know if they were in Daviess Co. in 1847 [they moved around a bit, I believe]; Judy Lewis might know. I find myself wondering if Catherine Right, widow of Roderick, was another sister of James Carr Veale? He seems to have looked after her and her children from the time of Roderick's will through going to Indiana. Certainly the families intermarried. John named a son Isaac Right, and I have wondered if that could have been Isaac for his father and Right for his mother Margaret, whose maiden name has never been confirmed satisfactorily. This is not much help, I know. I would be glad to hear what you know about these families--maybe it's already in your posting.... Emily Notify Administrator about this message?
