I am looking for info about Joel Doolittle, a postmaster in 1842 in Milford, Decatur County. He last appears in the 1850 census for 1850 IN, Decatur County, Clay, pg 49
Joel Doolittle, 49,m,w,VT,Blacksmith,v.R/E $1500
Sarah, 46,f,w,NY
Leland, 23,m,w,NY,Student
Joel F, 13,m,w,IN
Sarah E, 10,f,w,IN
Margaret, 4,f,w,IN

I would love to learn when and where he died. His wife Sarah Williams Doolittle, born in 1806 in NY, continues in the census until 1880 when she is living with her daughter Sarah Doolittle Gordon Sweet, her husband Mordecai Sweet, also a blacksmith and Sarah's two sons Albert and Franklin Gordon, from her marriage to Azel Gordon. I am confused about Azel Gordon who enlisted in August, 1861 and re-enlisted in 1864. An Azel Gordon filed an invalid pension in 1887 from Indiana and his widow Julia Kelley Gordon filed a pension in 1890 from Washington. There must be 2 Azel Grodons but I think that the younger Sarah Doolittle married him on 14 Feb 1861.
