In about 1838, widow, Rosannah Smith, came to Delaware County, IN, with her minor children, Mary born in 1817, Nancy born in 1821, Martha born in 1822, and Stephen born in about 1823.
Andrew Shafer married Mary Smith, on January 13, 1843, in Delaware County, IN.
She died on June 4, 1844, in Liberty Township & was buried at the Graham Cemetery.
Andrew then returned to Wayne County, IN, where he married Mrs. Sarah Mason on October 17, 1844.
Following their marriage, they returned to Delaware County where they resided until 1864 when they left for White County, IN.
Is it possible that Mary gave birth to a child & Andrew returned to Wayne County to have help in raising the child?
